Miss Karla Scott 
has an earned Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Pedagogy
(the science of vocal training) from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Maryland at College Park where she received a Full Fellowship Award for Graduate Study.
She is first
-prize winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and American Women in Radio and Television Competitions. Her operatic debut was as Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute in Rome, Italy.She has performed at the Kennedy Center, in recital for Opera Ebony Concert Guild, and with the Greensboro Symphony; Evening at the Pops, Christmas Concerts, and a concert version of Porgy and Bess. Ms. Scott has performed the Mahler 4th with the National Orchestral Institute Symphony, and in April of 2007, excerpts from the Mahler 2nd and Mozart C Minor Mass with the Annapolis Symphony. She also appeared in a PBS documentary film about the life of Jester Hairston.
She served as Instructor of Music at Bennett College for Women where she directed the touring choir. Under her leadership, the choir performed for President Clinton at the 50th Anniversary of UNCF. The choir also performed at the opening ceremonies of Africa University in Zimbabwe, Africa at the invitation of President Mugabe. Ms. Scott was listed in the national volume, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers for two consecutive years. By vote of the college faculty and staff, she received the Faculty Service Award from Bennett College.
Ms. Scott has begun Doctoral training in Music at the University of Maryland, College Park. As part of her research, she traveled to Beijing, China to train and study conservatory singers. Ms. Scott was invited to sing for former South African President Nelson Mandela at the Anwar Sadat Lecture for Peace. In 2001, she released her debut recording entitled JOYRIVER. Most recently in November of 2005, she was a guest soloist at the funeral services of Mrs. Rosa Parks at Metropolitan AME in Washington, DC. Currently, she directs the Gospel Choir at the UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY in Annapolis, Maryland and is the Director of Music at Clinton Christian School.
She is honored to serve the body of Christ as teacher and psalmist and has shared ministry settings with Israel Houghton and New Breed, Twinkie Clark of the Clark Sisters, Richard Smallwood, Ron Kenoly, Smokey Norful, Alvin Slaughter, Maurette Brown

The CCS 2007-08 Enrichment Choir professionally recorded their first CD. Copies of the CD are still available for $10 [About 30 remain]. The funds are being used to purchase studio recording equipment for the CCS Enrichment Music Department.

Third –Fifth Grade Choir
This year’s choir will learn the fundamentals of music theory and sight singing as well as learn music to present as part of the Music Department Christmas Concert.
Choir uniform will consist of khaki pants or skirt, (white socks or tights for girls), white button down shirts, black dress shoes, black belt (for boys trousers). In addition, each student should have a black sweater vest to which we’ll add the school crest.

As many of you know, I direct the USNA Gospel Choir. This year we (along with both glee clubs) are invited to sing at the Kick-off Inauguration Concert, Sunday at 2:00pm. Below is the official announcement. Please pray for us as we seek to be a great blessing during this important celebration. HBO will air the performance beginning at 7pm Sunday. The great news is, you don’t have to have HBO to view it…this airing will be free! Thanks again for your prayers. KScott

Opening Ceremony at
January 18, 2009
The 2009 Inaugural celebration begins with a star-studded concert at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, January 18 at 2 p.m. The event will be free and open to the public, kicking off the most open and accessible Inauguration in history. It will be presented by HBO 7:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT for Americans to enjoy across the country.
I am proud to announce that the combined choirs from USNA (Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Glee Club, and Gospel Choir) will be participating in the concert!
The choir will be performing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with classical artist
The President Elect, his family, staff, and an expected 1+ million people will be in attendance!
This is an incredible opportunity for our choirs and highlights the high esteem in which our ensembles are held - on a national and international level!!!
Be sure to watch your shipmates Sunday night!
