Four Dynamic Weeks of Cultural Music

Week #1

          We will start of the first week with a look at the origins of jazz.  We will look at the history of jazz music, and it'a main music proponents of jazz.  Throughout the week we will be listening to several musical selections from each well known jazz artists, and we will be looking at the instruments that were used in each era.

          This second week we will be looking at the world of classical music and its early beginnings.  A brief history discussion will be taught, as well as, a discussion on some of the well known composers  of the classical period.  We will be listening to several classical music selections, and the students will learn to play a classical selection from their music book.

            This week the class will explore the history of marching bands.  This will take us into the world and works of John Phillip Sousa.  The students will listen to some popular Marching Band selections and will then learn to play a selection in their music book.

          This week we will be taking an exciting look into Latin music, and the different styles that this music offers.  We will explore the history of Latin music from it's early stages up to more recent works, and investigate the instruments that have made Latin music so appealing in our.
