Objectives:

1.     Stimulate an interest in mathematics.

2.     Recognize the achievements of students in mathematics.

3.     Provide an opportunity to meet and fellowship with other mathematics-oriented students.

4.     Offer students an opportunity to glorify God in the use of their mathematical abilities beyond the classroom.

Eligibility:

*     Students in grades 3 -8 to participate.

*     Each student can only participate in one category only.

*     Each school may send no more than 36 students to represent the school at the ACSI Super Activity Day Math Olympics competition.

*     A substitute may only replace a student in the same grade/category.

Areas of Competition:

*     Arithmetic Computation – Problems will be of the paper/pencil computation variety. [Fundamental Math Operations]

*     Mathematical Reasoning – These problems will be more difficult than the daily mathematics assignments of the student’s grade level.  They could involve more than one operation and/or concept. This test will require a higher level of reasoning [story problems, patterns, puzzles, etc.]

ACSI Testing Procedures [April 24, 2009 ACSI Super Activity Day]:

The ACSI math Olympics is a series of times tests, or rounds.  There will be a short break between rounds.  Testing times are 11 minutes for grades 3 – 8. ACSI:  All students will be given four tests. The final [fourth] test score will be used only to break ties, if needed.

Preparation for the ACSI Math Olympics: March 2-5, 2009

Math Runoff – CCS will host In-Class Testing, grades 3-8.

CCS: Students will initially be given two tests to be taken during Math class. If the teachers finds that he/she has many “tie scores” in the class, than the teacher is to go to the GPA to decide who will be named on the official CCS Math Olympics Competing Team. The top three students per GRADE level [per category] will represent CCS at the ACSI Super Activity Day on April 24. Awards will also be given at the CCS Fine Arts Award Ceremony to the top scoring [In-Class] students, whether they are on the competing team or not.
